This company soared to new heights in 1963, setting a new sales record and commencing Holden’s second great era with the iconic EH Holden.

GM-H was a diverse industrial corporation also: manufacturing household whitegoods (the Frigidaire division), assembling GM’s American Chevrolets and Pontiacs and English Vauxhalls and Bedford trucks, total exported Holdens reaching almost 45,000, a Royal Visit to its Adelaide factory, manufacturing of the millionth Holden.

·     · 40th Anniversary: THE BIRTH OF THE SS COMMODORE
The SS nameplate became the greatest sports-motoring nameplate in Australian automotive history. Introduced in the HQ range, later extended to LX Torana then onto Commodore in VH. From there S became was also the longest continually running sports option ever seen here. The VH SS was a range in itself, offered as GROUP ONE, TWO and THREE under the roof at Peter Brock’s HDT SPECIAL VEHICLES.

Recently clocking up its 40th Anniversary this feature story combines stunning studio photography with historical information, official brochures and other imagery.

No other man strode the Australian motor racing and high-performance motoring landscapes than Peter Brock. The father of the greatest vehicle improvement organisation ever seen here, and record-holding 9-time Bathurst winner.

His HDT SPECIAL VEHICLES organisation modified brand new Commodores into the greatest Grand Touring machines never offered before in this country. The 1983 Commodores lifted the standard to a new high with the debut of the Commodore SS GROUP 3.
