DESCRIPTION

The first edition. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece, numerous vignettes, a full colour map and twenty monochrome plates. Collated complete. 

This autobiographical work was written by Richard Austin Freeman, a British detective writer. The work documents the author's time in Ashanti and Jaman where he volunteered as medical officer. Freeman describes his activities as a doctor, naturalist and surveyor during the expedition. 

In the publisher's original cloth. Lacking free endpapers and blanks.


CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally sound with with fading to the spine, damp stains to the spine and rear, marks to the boards and bumping to the extremities. Lacking front and rear free endpapers with front hinge starting and rear tender, a damp stain to the tail of the rear pastedown and scattered spotting. Internally lacking blacks, otherwise generally firmly bound with cords showing in places. Pages very lightly age toned with the odd spot and occasional tidemarks, heaviest to the tail of the rear pages.
