Product's Introduction
The 22 ALDEBARAN BFS is a new compact bait finesse reel released by Shimano in 2022.It maintains the ability to cast lightweight lures with a lower trajectory to targeted points.

Four models are available:
HG and XG models, with a choice between left and right-hand handle configurations.
The HG model features a gear ratio of 7.8:1, allowing for the retrieval of 71cm of line per handle turn.
Maximum drag force is 3.5g.
Weighing only 130g, it reduces fatigue on the wrists and elbows during extended casting sessions.
The spool diameter is 29mm, with a width of 19mm.
Mono line capacity is 45m of 8lb test line, with a recommendation for low-stretch fluorocarbon line.
The handle length is 40mm, and it is equipped with 10 ball bearings.
The XG model features a gear ratio of 8.9:1, allowing for the retrieval of 81cm of line per handle turn.

Other specs are similar to the HG model.

The notable feature is the spool diameter. At 29mm, it is comparable to Daiwa's bait finesse reels.
The ability to handle lightweight lures with minimal force pulling the line from the spool suggests that a diameter of around 29mm would provide the desired responsiveness.
For example, when casting lightweight minnows or spoons in mountain streams, being able to handle weights around 2g significantly expands the fishing range.By increasing the presentation options while using a thicker line than with spinning tackle, it allows for approaches to cover and structures. With increased chances of landing even if the line is rubbed, situations where the 22 ALDEBARAN BFS would be the preferred choice are likely to be quite common.

The 22 ALDEBARAN BFS features the Magnum Light Spool III, a first-time inclusion for a bait finesse reel. Its characteristic lies in the light force required for the spool to rotate smoothly. When casting with side-hand or under-hand swings, it allows for low trajectory casting of lures. With its firm extension, it enables casting lures to the furthest overhangs, and the low trajectory casting ensures a quiet landing, not startling the fish. The Magnum Light Spool III is an indispensable element for bait finesse reels, contributing to successful catches.

The 22 ALDEBARAN BFS is packed with specs that surpass the existing model, the 16 Aldebaran BFS.For example, let's consider the brake settings.Users who have used the existing model may have felt that even when setting the brake dial to 1 or lower, there was still some residual brake force, causing the cast lure to lose momentum. Many users may have felt frustrated, wishing for a lower trajectory and longer casting distance.

To address this issue, some users even reduced the amount of line they wound to maintain spool rotation. With the improvements in the brake system and the low inertia Magnum Light Spool III in the 22 ALDEBARAN BFS, users can expect to enjoy elongated, comfortable casts without compromise.
