Means of transportation, rows of houses, people, cattle, and waters in the drawings and paintings of the artist Hans Schweizer tell of location and movement, of oppression and dance. The viewer's eyes wander through pictorial surfaces and reenact the artist's constant search. Born in Herisau, Switzerland, in 1942, Hans Schweizer has been living in St. Gallen, Paris, Toronto, Zurich, Berlin and again is his native Swiss canton of Appenzell.

Published to coincide with Schweizer's 80th anniversary, this book offers space for the unflinching form of the artist's observations, his own positioning in a world whose crises and incongruities preoccupy him. Starting with a comprehensive, never-before-shown group of works from the 1980s, connections are drawn to all the creative years and especially to Schweizer's current works.
