Gerry Grant was a very accomplished road racer in North America including gaining successes in USRRC Sports Car Races. In 1966 he drove Dan Gurney's AAR team's Lola T70 Mk2, with Chevrolet V8 power, to 4 pole positions in 7 races winning in Bridgehampton. He was less successful in the Can Am races that year. This new sports car championship had attracted many of the top stars from Europe and Formula One.

Driving the AAR Lola T70 Mk2 Chevrolet , Grant finished 7th twice, first in the Players 200 at St.Jovite, Canada and then in the Bridgehampton GP on Long Island, NY. The open T70 was finished in dark blue with light blue markings and sponsorship from Bardahl. Grants T70 was powered by a Traco Chevrolet 90º V8 cylinder OHV engine of 4,991cc.(360 cu in) with about 492 bhp.
