Description: Hardcover. Octavo, 488pp., ilustrated, with folding map of Andersonville Prison. A good copy only in the publisher's decorative cloth. Soiling to boards, inner hinges thinly cracked, and wear to extremities. Contents generally clean, with sme very thin marginal dampstaining. Folding frontispiece bird's eye view of the prison with soem shallow edge creasing, but clean overall. A rather sordid defense of the benighted place, written by its chief surgeon. Nevertheless, despite its viewpoint, a detailed and important chronicle of events and data, including illnesses, rolls of the dead, etc. (Nevins I; 203). Good.
