Author Biography

Lynn Wenzel and Carol J. Binkowski co-authored I Hear America Singing: A Nostalgic Tour of Popular Sheet Music (Crown/Random House) in 1989 and are delighted to have worked together again on this project.Lynn Wenzel's articles, essays, and reviews have appeared in Newsweek, the New York Times, Newsday, and Ms., among many others. She was a contributing writer to the anthology Past and Promise: Lives of New Jersey Women and was a nationally syndicated feature writer on antiques and collectibles for such publications as Antique Review, Antique Week, American Country Collectibles, and Victorian Design and Living. She was managing editor of New Directions for Women, a national and international feminist newsmagazine, for many years. Lynn writes for and serves on the Editorial Board of the The Union newspaper, founded in 1851. A poet, playwright, and California native, she lives in the historic Sierra Nevada gold rush town of Grass Valley, California with her husband, Jeff.Carol J. Binkowski is the author of Opening Carnegie Hall: The Creation and First Performances of America's Premier Concert Stage; Joseph F. Lamb: A Passion for Ragtime; and Musical New York. She is a reviewer for Library Journal as well as an essayist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor and The Washington Post, among other publications. A New York native, Carol lives in New Jersey with her husband, Richard, and is an active musician in the metropolitan area.
