Hermann Mathieu was first elected for the Quebec Liberals in a 1979 byelection in the riding of Beauce-Sud, being re-elected in 1981 and serving in opposition under Robert Bourassa. He did not run again in 1985.

Marc Lacroix - Liberal Party of Quebec - 1985 provincial election - Riding of Shefford

Marc Lacroix ran for Robert Bourassa's Liberals in the 1985 Quebec provincial election in the riding of Shefford, in Montérégie. While Lacroix was unsuccessful, Bourassa's Liberals defeated the PQ. Bourassa also did not win his own seat, though he got a seat in a byelection the next month. This was the largest majority (by seat count) in any Canadian election where the leader did not win their own seat.
