1996-97 Topps Picks Fantasy Team #FT1 Patrick Roy
"Saint Patrick" was a goaltender selected with the 51st overall pick in the 1984 NHL Draft who went on to become one of the greatest goalies to ever play the game. Roy spent 11 years with the Montreal Canadiens and 8 years with the Colorado Avalanche. He won four Stanley Cups during his career, two with each team, and his number has been retired by both teams. He also played for Team Canada. He is a 3x Vezina Trophy winner, 3x Conn Smythe Trophy winner (the only player to do so in different decades, and the only one to have done it with 2 teams), and an 11x All-Star among his many awards and honors. Roy is widely credited with popularizing the butterfly style of goaltending and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. After his playing career in 2013 he became head coach and vice-president of hockey operations for the Colorado Avalanche, serving in that dual role for several seasons. He is currently hard coach of the New York Islanders.
