Original Aero B-3 USAAF Contract No. 42-22899-P / Chest Size 42" Medium

This authentic Type B-3 was standardised on May 29th 1933, and remained virtually unaltered until its discontinuation in 1943, although each original maker's B-3 had their nuances. Aero had two versions, each manufactured to their respective 1942 contracts. However, originals of the later 42-22899-P contract can be found with at least two slightly different back panel configurations. As the war drew on, this was a common practice with sheepskin flight jackets on both sides of The Atlantic. The resulting shortages of raw materials meant that slight variations were acceptable to the USAAF.

This Aero Leather Clothing B-3 weight uses heavy Shearling Sheepskin with extra strong Horsehide sleeve and seam overlays for extra protection, a single map pocket on the right-hand side and heavy leather straps with three-way stud collar closure for use in foul weather to enable the jacket to provide added protection to the lower part of the face. It has shorter shearling for the cuffs, waistbands and wind flap. The colour is seal brown sheep and horsehide trim.

The condition is fantastic for its age; there has been a patch made to the back of the jacket, as can be seen in the images provided; also at some point in the 1950's, a RiRi zip was added as a replacement and modified with a storm flap stitched to the front, I have enquired with Denny at Aero leathers regarding this and the zip can replaced with a very high-quality Japanese repro M42 Talon which is just what would have been fitted for £100. Also, the patch can be removed at the back and a new piece resewn; it all depends on how far you want to go. I've come across only a few of these over the years, and this one is in great condition, intact with no rips or holes, I will only accept serious offers on this jacket.
