Author's presentation copy, inscribed to the recto of the front free endpaper, 'John Ruskin, esqre L L D, with the author's very sincere esteem'.
John Ruskin was an art critic in Victorian England, being an influential figure in the art world, especially with the Pre-Raphaelites. He was also greatly admired by Leo Tolstoy, Marcel Proust, and William Morris. He was incredibly influential during his life, up to the First World War, including influencing the founders of the National Trust.
Illustrated with twenty-eight plates.

An interesting work on the tuning of musical intervals as whole number ratios of frequencies in both song and speech.
CONDITION
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light marks to the boards and spine. Small crack to the tail of the rear joint. Light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Author's inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only the occasional scattered spot.
