A superb disc! This is committed and fine music-making, with glorious singing, as long as you can take Peter Pears’ voice production, and wonderful piano playing. If you listen closely, you will notice an absolute unanimity between these two men, every nuance, every slight holding back perfectly aligned.

This is a famous and revered recording. Pears is inside every word of these songs, and gives are refined and deeply affecting reading of every song.

I was lucky enough to have my photo taken aged 12 with Pears and Britten when they came to our School,

Leeds Grammar, to perform just this work. They were friendly and very kind.

The disc was released in 1965, excellently remastered by Decca in 1991.

Decca analogue stereo.

German-made disc.

The box, booklet and disc are in very good used condition. The booklet is extensive and has an essay and texts in German and English. The disc plays perfectly.
