the jnr class eh10 originated in the mid 1950s, conceived as a permanently joined, two engine 8 axled locomotive capable of handling the steepest grades on japan's newly electrified main lines......64 eh10s were built between 1954 and 1956 by hitachi, mitsubishi, and kawasaki........the eh10 initially handled both freight and passenger service; however, as passenger traffic increased geometrically with the urbanization of post war japan, greater speed was required on the passenger routes, and the eh10 - nicknamed the "mammoth" - was reserved for heavy freight duties......the "mammoth" survived in service until the early 1980s when replacement by higher speed permanently linked locomotives like the eh200, eh500, and recently the eh800 dictated its obsolescence.....

kato has released this eh10 model two times - in 2003 and in 2021...... i do not believe that the design parameters changed with the 2nd offering.......the motive power is a traditional electric motor with flywheel - no upgrade to the latest core less motor design.....the number and manufacturer boards still feature the small gate, small retention hole type........the head lamps are still traditional bulb leds mounted on a pc board......

i acquired this model from a very large reseller in japan who evaluates all used model railroad items consistently and similarly - every item contains "some damage in various areas"....this formulaic approach certainly minimizes the possibility of complaints; however, superficiality allows the stealthy to acquire "pure gold"......this 3005-1 is certainly the latter........the shells are pristine except for a missing pantagraph which i sourced in japan and installed.....the wheel sets are relatively unmarked.......the accessories are untouched......my test run manifested 30% on the rheostat for n scale factored operating speed with comparatively vibrant head lamps when considering the technology......my sense of this model's history is very low utilization

the accessories for this set include the aforementioned number and manufacturer boards, front handrails, signal tube, and an alternative coupler for each end.....instructions in japanese with pictures are included..........
