Description

This is an early Victorian silver plated egg coddler from Mappin & Webb.

The coddler is a very early version with a wonderful swan finial and the underplate bears the mark for:

L304
Mappin & Webb
76, 77 & 78 Oxford St.
& Mansion House
Buildings. City
London

The legs are all firm and secure and the plating is in very good unrubbed condition with only very minor contact marks.

The top of the coddler bears an engraved gothic 'T' and a horse crest which I believe to be the crest of the Trotter family from Galloway.

The superb quality coddler with its original egg holder stands 9 inches (22.5cm) high.
