Valentinian I , sometimes called Valentinian the Great, was born in 321. He was Roman emperor from 364 to 375. Valentinian ruled the Western half of the empire, and his brother Valens ruled the East. In 378, Valens was defeated and killed at the Battle of Adrianople against the Gothic invaders. Valens is best remembered by history for the construction of the aqueduct that supplied water to Constantinople, the Eastern empire's capital city, for over a thousand years
