Full frame 35mm leaf shutter SLR, with interchangeablke lenses and finders.
Cast metal chassis.
Selenium meter on camera front, above the lens.
Film speed range: 16-500 GOST (20-650 ASA on export models).
Diaphragm setting, control knob on top of the body moves a cursor visible in the finder into coincidence with a pointer set by the actual diaphragm setting (Bessamatic System).
Central shutter, speeds 1s-1/500s + B, fully synch.
Delivered from factory with Vega-3 50/2.8 lens (*).

(*) At some point the camera got upgraded from the Vega to the more prestigious Schneider Xenar lens.

DKL bayonet mount.
Focus screen and meter needle are protected by an optical cover glass.
Wind lever position on the right side of the camera, just below the top plate.
Vertical rewind lever moved to the side of the body.
Hinged back.

The 4 from Zenit far from being ordinary, feels very solid and functions are very smooth.

The body is overall very clean with minimal signs of wear.
Viewfinder is overall clean.
Speeds are spot along the entire range.
Curtains are whole and sound.
Meter works, although accuracy cannot be assured.
Lens barrel is pristine and glass is clean.
