We are both the oldest surviving members of our families. As life-long collectors, and inheritors from those who have Gone Before, we must move on some of our Stuff before that (hopefully far-off) day when it becomes our children’s responsibility. Happy to combine for cheaper postage but PLEASE WAIT for combined invoice from me or ask me for one; postage discounts can only be given on combined purchases paid for on a single invoice.

A collection of postcards with military themes. From the estate of a well-known collector. Happy to combine.

1918 WW1 PHOTO CARDS BATTLE OF THE LYS GERMAN OFFENSIVE AUSTRALIAN PUBLISHED #6

The Battle of the Lys, also known as the Fourth Battle of Ypres, was fought from 7 to 29 April 1918 and was part of the German spring offensive in Flanders during the First World War. The aim of the Battle of Lys from the German point of view was to capture Ypres and the surrounding high ground around Messines.
Sailly Church was burnt during the open fighting of October 1914, when French cavalry and British and German infantry fought on the Lys, but from the winter of 1914-1915 to the spring of 1918 the village was comparatively untouched. It was captured by the Germans on 9 April 1918, and it remained in their hands until the beginning of September.
Battle of Bailleul. From 13–15 April, the Germans drove forward in the centre, taking Bailleul, 12 kms west of Armentières, despite increasing British resistance.
Two photo postcards original photographer / publisher AZ? AL in a diamond? Unusual because they were published in Australia – J M Hamilton & Coy Sydney Australia. Printed on stock associated with UK postcards.
AZ7 Bailleul, after German offensive – the square facing the Town Hall. (Stain top left corner.) AZ15 Sailly La Lys after German offensive – The Church. Both unused, some grubbiness to backs.

    My Items

The items I sell are vintage; they are second hand, old, sometimes very old. I try to describe and photograph my items honestly and to the best of my ability; however if pristine condition is very important to you, I feel you should be buying from a regular shop, where you can inspect the items personally. Please note that all my items are sold "as is", with no warranty implied, and that the photos form part of the description, which should be read carefully. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM PLEASE CONTACT ME FIRST.

Shipping and Payment Terms; Combining Items

If you win more than one item in a listing please wait for a combined invoice from me to save you on postage and insurance costs. I always wait until the last item in an auction listing finishes before sending invoices in case buyers win more than one item. If you win an item and are planning to bid on an item in a later-finishing auction, please email me to let me know, and I will wait until that auction has finished to send you a combined invoice.

International buyers please note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or postage charges. Please check with your country's Customs Office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding. In most cases these charges will be collected by eBay, in which case they will appear on your invoice. If not, these charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (postage) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional postage charges.

    Problem with a Transaction?

PLEASE contact me first. I am a reasonable human being; if there is a problem I am sure we can work something out that will satisfy us both. Involving eBay should be a last resort – something I hope will not be necessary. Contact Seller is under More Actions on your Purchase History page, or simply Reply to the email I sent when I posted your item.
