Berlin, 1920s. When the young Colonel Paul von Przygodski (David Bowie) returns from the war, after spending several months in a coma, he realizes that the world he knew has changed drastically. For him, who belongs to an aristocratic family, it will be very hard to see his house converted into a boarding house and having to look for a job to help his family financially. After a period of daze and disorientation, one night he meets by chance Baroness von Semering (Marlene Dietrich), who runs a gigolo club.
