A very interesting and beautifully made storage box. I believe the wood is walnut and, judging by the inlaid brass lettering, it is french in origin.

Very difficult to assess the age but I would assume it is from the second half of the 20th C.

Brass lettering to the top spelling out 'Lettres' and brass corners to the lid. Concealed brass hinges.

The interior is bare. The top and bottom surface of the interior has a 'rippling' indicating the handmade nature of the piece. Possibly an apprentice piece?

The lid closes with a nice tight fit.

It's a sizeable box and large enough to receive an A4 piece of paper.

340mm long x 245mm deep x 60mm high.

It weighs 1.3kg.
