  • Beschreibung: Freda Sophie Karoline Marie von Savigny, geborene Gräfin von Arnim (1831 Boitzenburg - 1905) ist uns als Gattin des preußischen Gesandten und Mitbegründers der Zentrumspartei, Karl Friedrich von Savigny (1814-1875) bekannt. Als solche begleitete sie Ihren Mann auf diplomatische Reisen und musste selbst zahlreiche repräsentative Pflichten übernehmen und an gesellschaftlichen Anlässen teilnehmen. Der Ort Gernsbach im Schwarzwald ist eingefasst in bewaldete Hügel, die teils von alten Burgruinen bestanden sind. Diese Zeichnung von Marie von Savigny zeigt den Ort mit Blick aus dem Tal. Die Hügel der Umgebung ragen aus dieser Perspektive gewaltig in den Himmel auf und überdecken den Horizont. Die dunkel verriebenen Flächen bilden eine eindrucksvolle Silhouette, die von den alten trutzhaften Gemäuern bekrönt wird. Nicht zuletzt durch die dunkle Färbung des Hintergrundes erstahlen die Bauten der im Vordergrund liegenden Ortschaft in besonderer Leuchtkraft. Eine ganzflächige Tönung, die entlang der Kanten zu erkennen ist, legt dem zuerst wohl helleren Landschaftsbild einen gräulichen Schleier auf.

  • Description: Freda Sophie Karoline Marie von Savigny, née Countess von Arnim (1831 Boitzenburg - 1905) is known to us as the wife of the Prussian envoy and co-founder of the Centre Party, Karl Friedrich von Savigny (1814-1875). As such, she accompanied her husband on diplomatic trips and had to take on numerous representative duties and attend social occasions herself. The town of Gernsbach in the Black Forest is surrounded by wooded hills, some of which are covered by old castle ruins. This drawing by Marie von Savigny shows the town with a view from the valley. From this perspective, the surrounding hills tower mightily into the sky and cover the horizon. The darkly rubbed surfaces form an impressive silhouette crowned by the old defiant walls. Not least because of the dark colouring of the background, the buildings of the village in the foreground shine with particular luminosity. A full-surface tint, which can be seen along the edges, imposes a greyish veil on what was initially a lighter landscape.

  • Condition: Good condition. In good condition for its age with minimal signs of wear. The sheet is discoloured and slightly foxed due to its age. There are brownish stains along the edges.
