  • Beschreibung: Freda Sophie Karoline Marie von Savigny, geborene Gräfin von Arnim (1831 Boitzenburg - 1905) ist uns als Gattin des preußischen Gesandten und Mitbegründers der Zentrumspartei, Karl Friedrich von Savigny (1814-1875) bekannt. Als solche begleitete sie Ihren Mann auf diplomatische Reisen und musste selbst zahlreiche repräsentative Pflichten übernehmen und an gesellschaftlichen Anlässen teilnehmen. In der bei Marie von Savignys Zeichnungen oft vorkomenden Technik des verriebenen Graphits oder verwischter Kohle, wurde auch auf diesem Blatt eine gelungene Landschaftsdarstellung geschaffen. Wiesen, Hügel und Wolken bilden sich durch den flächigen Auftrag des dunklen Materials und bleiben dabei keineswegs formlos. Selbst beim Blick in die Weite des Flusstals unten links ist noch genau zwischen Wasseroberfläche, bewachsenen Inseln und Horizont zu unterscheiden. Den Vordergrund nehmen hingegen Bäume und Figuren in kräftigen Zeichenstrichen ein, die auf diese Weise die räumliche Nähe zum Betrachter wunderbar wiedergeben. Auch die Ruine einer Burg bleibt in dieser Hinsicht beeindruckend. Trotz flächiger Bildung durch Verreibungen sind Kontur und Binnenstruktur erkennbar und lassen das Gemäuer gleichermaßen unheimlich und faszinierend wirken.

  • Description: Freda Sophie Karoline Marie von Savigny, née Countess von Arnim (1831 Boitzenburg - 1905) is known to us as the wife of the Prussian envoy and co-founder of the Centre Party, Karl Friedrich von Savigny (1814-1875). As such, she accompanied her husband on diplomatic trips and had to take on numerous representative duties and attend social occasions herself. The technique of rubbed graphite or smudged charcoal, which is often used in Marie von Savigny's drawings, was also used to create a successful landscape depiction on this sheet. Meadows, hills and clouds are formed by the flat application of the dark material and by no means remain formless. Even when looking into the expanse of the river valley at the lower left, one can still distinguish precisely between the surface of the water, the overgrown islands and the horizon. The foreground, on the other hand, is taken up by trees and figures in bold drawing strokes, which in this way wonderfully reproduce the spatial proximity to the viewer. The ruins of a castle also remain impressive in this respect. Despite the two-dimensionality of the rubbings, the contours and internal structure are discernible and make the walls seem both eerie and fascinating.
