  • Beschreibung: Büstenporträt im Viertelprofil eines Mannes mit aristokratischen Zügen im Pelz. Um den Hals trägt er ein Ritterkreuz am Bande. Das Blatt stammt aus Johann Caspar Lavaters Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Zwischen 1775 und 1778 gab er das mehrbändige Werk heraus, in dem menschliche Charaktere anhand ihrer Physiognomie erklärt werden. Bekannte Künstler wie Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg oder Johann Heinrich Lips lieferten Vorlagen für seine Sammlung der Physiognomik, die zahlreiche Porträts bekannter und anonymer Personen enthält.   • Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Auf dem Blattrand blass stockfleckig. Die Blattkanten sind teils unbeschnitten sowie stellenweise leicht bestoßen und verfärbt. Im oberen Blattdrittel verläuft eine horizontale Knickspur. Die Darstellung macht einen sehr guten Eindruck.

  • Description: Portrait of a bust in quarter profile of a man with aristocratic features in fur. Around his neck he wears a knight's cross on a ribbon. The print is from Johann Caspar Lavater's Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Between 1775 and 1778, he published the multi-volume work in which human characters are explained on the basis of their physiognomy. Well-known artists such as Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg or Johann Heinrich Lips provided models for his collection of physiognomy, which contains numerous portraits of well-known and anonymous persons.   • Condition: Very good condition. Pale foxing on the margins. The edges are partly untrimmed and slightly bumped and discoloured in places. There is a horizontal crease in the upper third of the sheet. The image makes a very good impression.
