This is a spinning top of the kind that provided hours of amusement to Victorian and Edwardian children in the days before smart phones and Gameboys. I don't know how old this example is but I can tell it would have been of top quality whatever era it is from. The top measure two and a half inches long and one and three-quarters wide. The metal tip is carefully turned to create a perfect spike. The hole in the top is lined with a small metal tube. I have not tried spinning it because I have no idea how it works. They aren't making them like this any more and more's the pity.
