Vintage Preserve Jam Pot - Art Deco Newport Pottery - Flowers Garden Scene Pictorial - Clarice Cliff Interest - Late 1920s - Vintage Art Pottery English Collectible Collector. h8.5cm, upper aperture d6cm, w10.5cm. Black printed base stamp of Newport Pottery Company Ltd with handpainted black 'V161' and a '3'. Stamp is pre-1930. Classic Art Deco shaping with 3 pictorial panels separated by orange 'struts' that feature a vibrant spring garden. Bright palette very similar to Clarice Cliff's 'Radiance' and there is a Chloris feel to the pattern. Shape listed in Slater & Brough ‘Comprehensively Clarice Cliff’ as shape 478. Artwork is in good order with some minor loss of the bright orange paint in places, not unusual for the style of finish. Some lovely brushstrokes visible. Crazed. There is a line by the rim that is glazed over and appears to be crazing rather than a crack (last 4 photos). A super example of Art Deco pottery that displays beautifully and is in good overall condition. 156g unpacked. Express tracked delivery included. Zero waste packaging.
