"Warming Up at Wigan Casino" is an original water colour painting by Northern Soul artist Neil Thompson.

Neil was at the Casino's first all nighter on the 23rd September 1973. He was a regular at the club and completed this painting two years later in 1975 - it re-surfaced when he was looking through his old paintings and sketches! This is a preliminary work for a bigger painting, long since sold.

The painting shows a scene on the Casino's dance floor, with dancers just getting out on to the floor, while others sit at tables around the dance floor. There's lots of details in this painting that those who went to the Casino will recognise! Although the painting is nearly 50 years old, the colours are vivid and clear.

Close up details from the painting can be seen in image 3 and 4, and check out the video.

As can be seen from above, Neil has been into the Northern Soul scene since the early 1970's, all his art is drawn from memory. He was a regular at the Casino  and many other Northern Soul clubs throughout the 1970's. His art is regarded by many people as an iconic part of the Northern Soul scene.

The painting has been completed on 250 gram art paper, and measures 24.5 cm wide by 13.5 cm tall. The painting has been mounted using a classic ivory mount, ready for framing. The overall size with the frame is 33 cm wide by 22 cm tall.

"Warming Up at Wigan Casino" comes with a Certificate of Authenticity - please see image 5.
