Camera had old depleted batteries when purchased that had enough power to respond to shutter.

Picture shows type battery needed or equivalent. Originally it used two RM640 mercury batteries, of course you cant get those, anymore. Chats say use two PX640 available batteries and just lower the ISO setting a little to compensate for the higher voltage.

Or use 2 LR44 stacked on one side and tin foil on the other side. I've read where that works just fine.
