VTG BELGIUM LINEN TEA SET 5 PIECE PEERLESS WHITE NAPKINS TABLECLOTH 42” NWT BOX

Peerless All Pure Linen Tablecloth & Napkins Tea Set Belgium NWT in original box. Linen is the oldest textile in the world. Remnants date the first use of this durable material to 30,000 years ago. In history, it played a great role in the economies of Ireland and France and dressed royals. Linen is a durable, sustainable fabric. Some of the finest of this woven flax fabric comes from Flanders, the primarily Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. Belgian Linen is a registered trademark of the Belgian Flax and Linen Association, a trade association that represents over 1,500 artisans and companies that grow and transform flax in Belgium. Since 1960, the association oversees and coordinates the Belgian Linen trademark. There are strict limitations on label use: it has to match quality standards and a certificate can be obtained only by Belgian companies. These standards include that at least 85% of the product by weight contains natural vegetable flax fibres of European Union-origin.

This set of Belgian linen was most likely made in the 1950s, before the Association was formed. The original box has a lot of shelf wear and is in rough condition, per photos. But it has protected this fine embroidered fabric set and kept it pristine for more than 60 years. Box also tells all details and lists color as white. I think it is more cream colored. All original packaging is intact. See photos.
