This is an authentic full-sized 1951 advertising placard--NOT a recent reproduction

This advertising placard, printed on very stiff pasteboard, was printed to advertise a local business in the early 1950s. The placard was displayed inside a city public transit system bus in Iowa City, Iowa, in the early '50s!

"Clotheslines are for the birds!"

This advertisement is for a Westinghouse Clothes Dryer, and rode aboard the Iowa City buses back in the early 1950s, to advertise a business called Thomas Electric. This was before my time, so I don't know how long the business thrived in Iowa City. Consulting an Iowa City directory published in 1959, Thomas Electric was then located at 220 East College Street in downtown Iowa City. I don't have directories for 1960-1966, but it is not listed in the 1967 Iowa City business directory.

This particular advertising placard is dated in the lower left corner "©1951, WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION." See my store for a handful of other Westinghouse appliance ads (and others) that rode the same buses between 1951 and 1959.

Printed on heavy pasteboard, the placard size is 28" x 11" It is in fairly good condition, but there is some minor wear to the edges.

Below is a photograph of the placard--with a 12" ruler below for scale. The image is a fairly accurate representation of the placard. Please refer to other photos for closeups to see details, and the quality of the printed image.

Below: Closeups show detail, and the quality of the printed image. These closeup photos were taken with a macro lens, so only part of the image is in tight focus, but the entirety of the advertising placard is precisely printed and looks very crisp.

Condition: Very Good. As shown, with no tears. There are some minor signs of wear from storage over time, especially around the edges.

This placard is too stiff to be rolled into a mailing tube. It will be carefully packaged between layers of material to stabilize it and preserve condition during shipping. Shipping costs quite a bit more (around $11.09) to post these, since they have to be shipped flat, and the package will measure greater than 12" on two sides. Please keep this in mind when you consider the cost of the item; although I offer "free shipping," it still costs me to post! Ships next business day.

This is a genuine 1951 advertisement placard--NOT a recent reproduction. It is over 70 years old; please handle with care.
