"Balcony at Wigan Casino" An Original Water Colour Painting, Mounted and Backed.

"Balcony at Wigan Casino" is an original water colour painting by Northern Soul artist Neil Thompson.

The painting shows a scene on the balcony at Wigan Casino at a Saturday all nighter. Back in the 1970's and early 80's coaches packed with teenagers travelled from all over the country to dance to rare Northern Soul records. The Casino was always packed, the atmosphere electric and it was so hot! The place to go for a breather was up on the balcony. Neil re-creates such a scene with people looking down on to the dance floor below. Those who went to the Casino will remember the beautiful freeze that ran around the balcony (the Casino was built in 1916 and was originally called the Empress Ballroom) - Neil has copied this feature so accurately!

Close up details from the painting can be seen in images 2 and 3, and check out the video.

Neil has been into the Northern Soul scene since the early 1970's, all his art is drawn from memory. He was a regular at the Casino and many other Northern Soul clubs throughout the 1970's. His art is regarded by many people as an iconic part of the Northern Soul scene.

The painting has been completed on 250 gram art paper, and measures 27.5 cm wide by 20 cm tall. The painting has been mounted using a classic ivory mount and backed ready for framing. The overall size with the mount is 38 cm wide by 30 cm tall.
