A Satsuma panelled and lacquered Kodansu cabinet.


Meiji Era (C.1868 - 1912), late 19th century. 


The cabinet fitted with Satsuma panels and drawers, painted and enamelled with assorted flowers. The cabinet constructed from a light timber and superbly lacquered with fine detailing in gilt, silver and red enamels on top. The doors and with small silvered butterfly hinges and the interior fitted with small fixed shelves.


Unsigned, the Satsuma panels likely decorated by Kinkozan.


One damaged Satsuma inset panel, some splitting to the lacquer/timber around some of the joints and doors, the hinges are slightly loose. Some overall wear to the decorated finish.

Condition and Authenticity: 


At Matsuri Japanese Art, your undivided trust is of the upmost importance to our continued success. We provide a full guarantee for authenticity of all items offered for sale, or your money will be returned in full. 


All items go through a multi-point inspection, examining their authenticity and condition, before being offered for sale. Antiques are sold on an as-is basis, due to their age and often fragile nature. No warranty or guarantee is provided for the long-term functionality of any pieces.


All items are our own stock, and do not belong to dealers or external third parties. We do not offer a consignment or re-sale service. We do not offer any in-house restoration, however can recommend local restorers and representatives upon request.


Shipping and Handling:


We are proud to offer all products available for shipping worldwide. Items will only be shipped, once cleared payment has been received in full. 


Once payment has been received in full, please allow for 1 business day for dispatch.


All orders will be shipped using Australia Post with signature within Australia, and either Australia Post with tracking & signature or EMS with signature Internationally. Other courier services (DHL & FedEx) can be arranged at the buyer’s expense. The buyer will assume full responsibility over any associated risks, once the parcel has been dispatched. Pick up can be arranged upon the buyer's request.


All items are professionally packaged to avoid damage whilst in transit. Matsuri Japanese Art is not directly responsible for any loss or damage incurred through transit. In the event an item is lost, buyers will be refunded after an insurance claim has been both approved and paid.


All International buyers will assume full responsibility for fees, duties or taxes imposed on them by local customs authorities. The buyer will assume full responsibility over the item, if this event takes place. No refunds will be issued for items seized by customs, unless they are returned within 14 days of receipt and in the same condition as when dispatched.


All parcels will be shipped with full disclosure of the purchase price.


Cancellations, Returns and Refunds 


All items offered for sale include a detailed description as well as a range of high-resolution photos. Should further clarification be required for any item, please contact us prior to purchasing.


If an item does not meet the buyer’s satisfaction and legitimate reasoning is provided, you may contact us to arrange a return within 3-days of receiving the item. Items may not be returned at the end of this 3-day inspection period. All costs associated with the return of an item are at the responsibility of the buyer. A refund will be issued upon safe receipt and inspection of the item. Refunds will not be issued for items which have been tampered with or are not in their original state.

Australian buyers are subject to the payment of GST, which is included within the purchase price.
