Between 1915 and 1918, British troops were part of a multi-national Allied force fighting against the Bulgarians and their allies in the Balkans. Malaria proved to be a serious drain on manpower during the campaign. In total the British forces suffered 162,517 cases of the disease and in total 505,024 non-battle casualties. 

 

 

Memorial plaque named as awarded 120mm (4.72 inches) cast in Bronze at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich circa 1920 identified by encircled WA on reverse and a worker number 78 between the lions rear leg and tail

 

Good patina, lightly polished condition, small mounting hole at 12 o’clock.
