Maria Sharapova had planned to wear this exact style Nike tennis dress at the 2008 US Open.  She had been suffering from a rotator cuff tear from early April 2008. This forced her out of all tournaments for the rest of the season, including the Beijing Olympics, the US OPEN, and the WTA Tour Championships. In spite of that, she still finished the year ranked world No. 9. She is one of ten women to achieve the career Grand Slam. She is also an Olympic medalist, having won silver in women's singles in the 2012 London Olympics.
