Witness the charm of these 18th c./ early 19th c. folding 'bow' type sunglasses with original gray glass lenses ...and they're here for your bidding pleasure!

These early eyeglasses are an attic find from a recent estate.

Circa dating 1780's-1810 these eyeglasses are made of steel (blued iron), glass, and the better part of their original card paper case.

These primitive tinted eyeglasses hold the essence of originality together with the precision craftsmanship of an early period eyewear piece such as this pair.

The gray colored lenses add a unique and unusual touch to what is considered much rarer 'smokey' gray color fo early glass sunglasses, making them stand out from most others of this period.

These eyeglasses are in real nice shape and are unmarked. The extender joints still work and fold well, and are snug and not sloppy in their movement, further attesting to their excellent craftmanship.

The early period black sinew thread that you see wrapped around one side is not a repair as the inexperienced eye might wonder; but rather, it was customary back in that day for trappers, travelers, and even traveling doctors to carry thread this way in the event of emergency or other necessity. (very 'MacGyver' like and quite interesting to say the least.)

So here they're available and without Reserve, and I know they'd make a great addition to your antique eyewear collection and serve it as a testament to great workmanship additionally, and notwithstanding,
...the historic story behind the resourcefulness of their original owner. past.
