This is a very nice cheese knife with Mother of Pearl Handle and sterling silver band made for Jacksonville jewelry store Greenleaf & Crosby as a souvenir of nearby St. Augustine. Greenleaf & Crosby was founded in 1870. Their success enabled them to build the Greenleaf & Crosby Building in 1928 (today upscale downtown office condos.) I suspect this knife was produced in conjunction with or close in time to the opening of the 1928 building. It is acid etched on the blade with the jewelry store name and location. The sterling silver ferrule collar is embossed with three images of St. Augustine; "Fort Marion" (built by the Spanish as Castillo de San Marcos then renamed Ft. Marion by the United States after the purchase of Florida, renamed Castillo de San Marcos in 1942 by Act of Congress), the Old Cathedral with Spanish Mission façade and the City Gates. Measures 8 1/2" long and in excellent condition.
