Description: (includes all scans and photos)

For Sale: A real photo view of the Company 9 Barracks at Madison Barracks Army Camp in Sackets Harbor, NY. Published by White(?) Studio, N.Y., # 286. The card is postally unused. c1917.

Interesting Details: The barracks building (one of a number of such temporary “shacks” built during WWI), the Company’s bulletin board on the side of the building, a bicycle on the ground and four soldiers captured in time.

Identifiers: On the front (on the negative): “COMPANY 9 BARRACKS”, “MADISON BARRACKS” (title), “White(?) STUDIO, N.Y.“ (photographer - the letters are hard to decipher), “286” (negative’s number)  On the back: “… AZO …”, (stamp box – dates the card to 1904-1918)

Postal and Other Markings: none

Condition: Unposted. Overall, nice. The corners and edges are sharp. On the front: a light dime-sized scuff mark and light impressions from corner mounts. On the back a short pencil notation and some light discoloration. These issues aren’t distracting – the scanner tends to accentuate any discoloration. Please study the scans.

Thanks for considering this item.

The Fine Print:
Descriptions: I try to provide accurate (and AI free) descriptions but I’m not an expert -- my assessments can be off and internet sources may not be accurate. I try to list defects that are hard to see, but I might miss something, so do zoom in on the scans.

Scans/Photos: These are the most important part of the description. You need to examine them closely. If you see something you don’t like, there’s a good chance it’s still going to be there when you open the package. Still, it might be just a scanning artifact or lighting. The scanner can accentuate color differences making toning and soiling appear significantly more pronounced than they do when the card is in hand. If you have a doubt about what you’re seeing, please ask me about it before buying (or not buying.)

Definitions: “Antique” means at least 100 years old, while “Vintage” means at least 50 years old. Often, this is just my estimate and should not be taken as an expert assessment.

Stamps and Postal Markings are described generically to avoid outraged returns. Assume what’s being offered is the most common variety. I usually include a close-up scan to help you decide, but you’ll have to assign catalog numbers yourself.

Best Offer: Offers are welcome, but shipping isn’t negotiable because eBay charges the listed amount anyway.

Delivery Time: Any time given in this listing is an eBay estimate – not mine and it is not guaranteed. The USPS does not guarantee delivery times for the First Class, Ground Advantage, and Priority Mail shipments that I use. Delays on their part are always a possibility, especially during the holidays. This is rarely an issue but be aware.

State Sales Taxes: eBay will collect and remit sales tax on your purchase in accordance with your applicable state law. My being in tax free New Hampshire won’t save you.

Shipping & Handling Options: USPS Ground Advantage has tracking. First Class does not include tracking but does include the surcharge for non-machinable handling. Orders are sent in either photo mailers or larger padded envelopes. The delivery times for both options are about the same.

For Multiple Orders: I try to consolidate shipping, so please use the shopping cart and request an invoice prior to paying. If not, you’ll have to pay the individual shipping and handling charges up front before I can calculate and refund any excess.

Returns: Free domestic returns within 30 days.

Feedback: I always leave feedback. Yours is appreciated.

Questions: I’m happy to answer questions. It’s easier and cheaper to ask than to pack something up and return it. If you see an error in this listing, please let me know. Corrections are welcome.
