A rather beautiful and rare/unusual 19th century hand carved red carnelian agate lidded jar or bottle on a hardwood stand with flowers and birds decoration. A really lovely collectable antique piece that would be worth a four-figure sum if it weren't for some faults.

In terms of condition the jar is a lovely bright flame orange/red colour but there are some issues.

- The (original) fitted hardwood stand is damaged with some of the original carved pieces missing. Ideally the stand needs to be repaired if it is to be used for display purposes.

- The lid has been broken into two pieces and reattached but there are some pieces missing. The lid originally would have been in the form of a flower (intact) and a bird but the head of the bird is missing completely.

- In photos 12 & 13 there is a missing band of agate that would have gone from the flower to the top left of the picture almost horizontally across to the bird in the top right of the picture. This piece is also absent.

- There are a couple of other vertical cracks running down the body of the jar on each side.

The damages are a real shame but without them this piece would retail for over £1,000 so I've obviously already built in a significant discount to the normal retail price.

 

In terms of age, this is a genuine antique piece, likely from the mid 19th century.  

The jar / bottle is ~7.5cm wide, 5.5cm deep and ~9.5cm tall (excluding hardwood stand) or 12cm tall with stand. It weighs ~0.25kg
