Superb Miles Mason Imari Pattern Milk Jug / Creamer c1810

A very rare early Miles Mason bone China milk jug or creamer dating to c1810 George III era. The jug is hand-painted with Imari colour enamels and gilded. It has an oval form with a swelling body, curving in at the neck, and the neck has upright sides, and with a flaring broad lip. Loop handle with a thumbpiece rising steeply from the rim and joining the body below its widest part. The neck has a border of gilt leaves and the rim and handle also gilded.

Overall in very good condition. I have only very lightly cleaned it to remove dust and loose surface dirt but the jug is quite discoloured in places and would require more exact cleaning (if desired). There is a small crack to the interior base (not visible from the foot of the jug) and the handle has been broken and glue repaired. There is some wear to the gilt, particularly to the handle and spout rim. The painting to the body is in excellent condition.

No marks to the base but an old collector's sticker saying 'M Mason'.

A cream jug of the same form but different pattern is on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington, London.

The cream jug is 11.6cm high (to the top of the handle rest), 14.2cm long from spout to handle, ~7.5cm wide and it weighs 204g.
