Fine antique Derby Tea Bowl c1790 with Fluted Form and Gilt Design (Pattern 55)

Pretty Derby tea bowl with 24 vertical flutes and shaped rim. Decorated with gilding only, a twisting vine snaking along a straight gilded band sits below a a band of bull's eyes sandwiched between 2 further straight bands and with a dentil border at the rim. The tea bowl has a further gilded band running inside of dots sitting under a scalloped line. There is also a floral spray in the centre of the tea bowl but this is quite worn (see pic 8). Puce Derby marks to the base with pattern number 55, c.1790 during the Duesbury II period (pic 10).

Most porcelain tea ware pieces produced at the Nottingham Road factory during the Duesbury II period carry the standard Derby crown, crossed batons with dots and letter D mark. The mark is usually coloured in puce and underneath there is often a pattern number.

The bowl measures 8.3cm (3 1/4") and 5cm (2") high. Condition is excellent with no chips or cracks, just the wear to the gilt at the bottom of the bowl.  A lovely collectable piece of early English porcelain.
