No Name Petzval 210mm f3.5 Antique Brass Portrait Lens

Circa 1890's

Looks French in construction possibly made by Gasc & Charconnet.

Technical details:

Focal length: 8.25" (210mm) measured from ground glass screen to waterhouse stop slot when focussed at infinity.

Speed:
F3.5 (calculated by dividing the focal length by diameter of entrance pupil as viewed from the front)

Coverage: Covers 5x7" nicely . Would also make a nice portrait lens on 5x4".

Cosmetic condition: Showing wear lots of patina commensurate with age and use. Dings/dents to the hood.

Optical condition: Optically the lens is in very good condition when considering it's age. Clean/clear to look through. Some small pittig/ding marks to front lens. Some minor haze in rear lens.Otherwise just the usual cleaning marks and some dust. Nothing that adversley affects performance. Lens shows a very sharp image when mounted to my camera with typical petzval character and swirly bokeh.

Mechanical: The rack and pinion knob is a bit bent but is working well and as intended. There is a slot for waterhouse stops and one stop marked f6 is included.

There is NO flange/retaining ring included!

Measurements approx.
height: 13cm, visible front lens diameter: 5.7cm, visible rear lens diameter 5.7cm, actual glass diameter 6cm, Rear screw thread diameter 7.6cm (3 inches) approx

Approx weight unpacked: 930g

A nice petzval portrait lens well suited to wet plate collodion photography.
