This is a red wool wide brim hat dating to the glamorous 1980s. It has a low rounded crown and is decorated with “horsehair” braid in a flower shape at the back of the crown, with a grosgrain ribbon centre. The edge of the brim is also covered with horsehair braid netting. Horsehair, of course, is not real horsehair, but a millinery term for this type of netting. The hat has a spaghetti strap that would aid in keeping the hat in place. It is a difficult hat to size, but I would think it would fit a medium sized head. It is in very good condition with no noted wear, tear or staining. The label reads “Sonni of San Francisco” - Sonni Hats of California is actually located in Oakland and was established in 1952, and still in business. The wool felt is stamped “Lancaster 100% Wool WPL 4384 Made in U.S.A.”. Very classy hat - great for Derby or any special occasion.
