Up for auction is my PlayStation 2 Slim (Model SCPH-70012) with 3 original controllers (varying condition and functionality), an original 8 mb memory card, aftermarket power supply, aftermarket AV cables, and a damaged copy of SpyHunter for testing purposes.
Please see photos for details of cosmetic condition.
Selling FOR PARTS (read below).
DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE WITH THIS PS2:
The PS2 boots up and loads games. However, it scratches discs due to a common failure on these slim models. The ribbon cable for the laser mechanism is loose causing it to flex upward and make contact with game disc during playback. This causes deep scratches/damage to game discs! I attempted to repair this myself by disassembling the unit, cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol, and applying electrical tape over the ribbon cable to hold it in place. However, it still scratches discs. A proper solution would be to purchase a new laser/disc assembly (around $30 on eBay) to replace the current faulty one. This is a relatively easy repair to do yourself - there are many tutorials online. I don't have the desire to work on it right now, so I am selling it for parts instead.
YOU WILL RECEIVE:
- PS2 Slim with known disc scratching issue due to loose ribbon cable
- 8 mb Sony memory card
- 3 Sony dual shock controllers; one has a stuck analog stick, the second has missing grip on the analog sticks but appears to work, and the third has no apparent issues. I've tested these controllers minimally and am selling them for parts.
- Aftermarket/3rd party power supply. I purchased this on eBay a week ago to test the PS2. It is practically new.
- Aftermarket/3rd party AV cables. This cable works with PS1/PS2/Xbox/Xbox360.
A copy of SpyHunter with damage to the disc which occurred during testing. Last I tested it still boots and plays. You can use this as a dummy disc to perform further testing if you'd like.
