DESCRIPTION

This is a Vintage Character Jug, made by Royal Doulton. The Character is "Simon the Cellarer", based on a 1860 Victorian song. The mark on this cup shows that this was one of the earliest mugs produced (1930s) the "A" next to the crown was used to denote the type of kiln needed for this mug, The mug was designed by Charles Noke, and his assistant Harry Fenton. The handle is designed to represent the key to Simon's cellar. The character’s name is embossed on the back of the mug at the bottom.
