A popular design transfer printed floral tile during the late Victorian and early Edwardian times.  One of many such floral designs, featuring popular English flowers, such as the Blue Aster, which is placed within complex, Rococo pattered, borders...and most often found in used as fireplace surrounds in Victorian England.

Made by T&R Boote, one of the top quality fireplace tile specialists of the time.  Fortunately, our stock of these lovely tiles was discovered fitted into the backsplash of an old English washstand, where they escaped all the hazards of the fireplace, to survive in their current, excellent, condition.

Condition: Excellent.

Because this tile's source was a long vanished piece of furniture and not a coal fireplace, the back side of this tile, or "Verso," is very clean, free of smoke and soot stains, and stamped with its pattern/colorway number: 444.

This 137 year old tile is as good as they get and displays as well as it originally did, when it was first installed in 1886.
