These are truly unique pieces of European hunting history. Not sure how rare they are but they are certainly uncommon. You get two German wood and metal bas relief wall mounts extolling the ethics of good hunting/wildlife management. These harken back to a time when hunting throughout much of Europe was a rare privilege afford to a select few by the local land Baron and the estate was actively managed for wildlife. Roughly translated by Dr. Google, the one beginning “Dem Wilde sei…” translates to “First of all, be a hunter for the game. Then you will also have fun as a hunter. Have respect for the big game. How you hunt it - your hunter image” while the other translates to “This is the hunter’s shield of honor that he protects and cares for his game, hunts like a hunter as is appropriate and honors the creator in the creature”. They appear to be fallow deer and the detail in the bas relief is stunning. They measure approximately 16”x10”, weigh nearly 8 pounds combined and are practically in like new shape but please scrutinize the pictures to judge condition for yourself.
