Maria Likarz married Strauss was a designer, graphic artist and employee of the Wiener Werkstätte. From 1908 to 1910, Likarz went to the art school for women and girls in Vienna, where she was a student of Otto Friedrich, among others. She studied art at the Vienna School of Applied Arts under Josef Hoffmann, Rosalia Rothansl and Anton Kenner from 1910 to 1914. While she was still studying, she worked as a graphic designer for the Wiener Werkstätte. Likarz later was a teacher at the Burg Giebichenstein School of Applied Arts from 1916 to 1920, where she was the first female member of the teaching staff to set up a workshop for enamel work.
From 1912 to 1914 and from 1920 until its dissolution in 1931 she worked at the Wiener Werkstätte, where she worked mainly in the area of ​​advertising graphics. She designed postcards, advertisements, posters, wrapping paper, stationery and marbled paper (tunk paper). She later devoted herself more to ceramics and enamel before turning to fashion. Her work has been shown many times in exhibitions.
 

PEARL BAG

Exceptional, rare bucket bag with abstract bead embroidery in bright orange, beige, dark brown and white, crocheted on the upper edge, drawstrings with olive-shaped wooden beads, lining made of light goatskin.
Design attributed to the artist Maria Likarz-Strauss, as similar examples can clearly be attributed to the artist.

WW - Wiener Werkstätte: The Wiener Werkstätte GmbH was a production community of visual artists. The founding members in 1903 were Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and the industrialist Fritz Waerndorfer, who made a name for himself as a patron of the arts. On 2. From 1908 to 1910, Likarz attended the Art School for Women and Girls in Vienna, where she was a student of Otto Friedrich, among others.
