This is a hard coin to photograph. 

I don't know how a naturally toned coin could develop such deep colors. (Maybe its owner lived in a factory town with smokestacks spewing sulfur...) Held in sunlight at special angles, the coin comes to life, showing an underlying sheen of yellows, reds, and blues that pierce through the coppery brown-gold. The reverse is especially luminescent in this way.
