Offered for your consideration is a vintage Foster part # 49-1166 horn tweeter, manufactured in Japan in 1977. This tweeter was removed from my Zenith Allegro 3000 two-way speakers. It could also be found in the Allegro 2000.  In addition, Foster horn tweeters were used by Cerwin-Vega and other brands in the 1970’s, but the buyer is responsible for verifying its suitability for their needs.

So, please take a look at my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this capable Foster horn tweeter should be yours.

*Although the listing is written largely in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) identical Foster 49-1166 horn tweeters are available at time of this writing. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or both in the quantity field at the top of the listing. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated by eBay checkout.

This Foster tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, or scratches to the sturdy black plastic chassis. Plus, the diaphragm has been well-protected beneath the wave guide deep in the horn throat. And, the +/- terminals measure the standard .205” and are marked for polarity (white dot = pos). I’ve left a small length of input wires strung to the terminals for the new owner’s convenience in retrofitting to their speaker(s), which can simply be removed if not needed. Overall, this is a very well-preserved Foster horn.

Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very strong and clear with none of the harshness often encountered with larger metal horns. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 7.3Ω consistent with an 8 ohm nominal driver rating. Lastly, the mount flange measures 3⅜” square, it stands 3⅛” tall, and the mount holes are spaced 2⅝” adjacent / 3¾” on the diagonal, c-t-c.

As pictured and described, this remarkable Foster horn tweeter is offered at a competitive price.
