  • Beschreibung: An einem hölzernen Hoftor erblicken die Betrachtenden ein Kind in Rückenfigur, den Kopf nach links gerichtet. Dort erblickt es eine Katze, die auf dem Pfosten Platz genommen hat, während das Kind eine hölzerne Spielzeug-Katze hinter sich her zieht. 1872 als Sohne einer kinderreichen Predigerfamile geboren, besuchte Daniel GREINER nach einem Philosophie Studium die Bildhauerschule in Berlin und Paris. Von 1903-1906 war er Mitglied der Darmstädter Künstlerkolonie, danach ließ er sich mit einer eigenen Werkstatt in Jugenheim nieder. GREINER war als Bildhauer, Medailleur, Grafiker und Schriftsteller tätig. Sein wohl bekanntestes Werk ist die "Greiner-Bibel", die in 147 Holzschnitten Themen aus dem Alten und Neuen Testament aufgreift.

  • Description: Without designation. At a wooden courtyard gate, the viewers catch sight of a child in a supine figure, his head turned to the left. There he sees a cat that has taken a seat on the post, while the child pulls a wooden toy cat behind him. Born in 1872 as the son of a preacher's family with many children, Daniel GREINER attended the sculpture school in Berlin and Paris after studying philosophy. From 1903 to 1906 he was a member of the Darmstadt artists' colony, after which he set up his own workshop in Jugenheim. GREINER worked as a sculptor, medallist, graphic artist and writer. His best-known work is probably the "Greiner Bible", which takes up themes from the Old and New Testaments in 147 woodcuts.
