This is an attractive solid silver vesta case made during the reign of King Edward VII. Oval in form, it is smothered in bright cut engraved floral motifs and scrolls, being a good reflection of the Art Nouveau period during which it was made. There is a blank cartouche on the front which means the lucky purchaser could personalise it should they so wish. It feels tactile to hold and is made from a decent gauge of silver. A super case made by the respected silversmith, Samuel M Levi.

Condition is excellent. There are no splits or repairs, just the usual light surface scratches and marks commensurate with a piece of silver which is 123 years old.The hinge is strong, has a snap shut closing action and the lid has a nice tight fit when closed. The strike plate functions as it should. There are a couple of minor knocks on the case but they are insignificant in my opinion and do not detract from the overall appeal. This is a highly desirable vesta case which would compliment any collection. My photographs confirm condition, however further images are available if required.

Hallmarks are crisp and show Birmingham 1901, the maker being Samuel M Levi. Established in 1889, the business operated from premises in Frederick Street and subsequently Vyse Street, Birmingham. As manufacturing silversmiths and electro platers, they produced a wide and varied range of products through to the late 1930’s.The quality of their work is reflected in this nice vesta case.

The case measures 4cm x 2.5cm and weighs 16g.
