This auction is for a beautiful, quiet luxury Moynat Rejane PM handbag in full grain black taurillon leather with silver hardware. 

Pauline Moynat founded Moynat in Paris in1849 with manufacturers and trunk-makers Octavie and Francois Coulembier.  Moynat was the only women trunk-maker in history at that time, pioneering custom-made trunks that fit the contours of the cars of that day.  She took this expertise into designing handbags, debuting her first women's bag, the Rejane, in 1903 after her friend and famous actress, Gabrielle Rejane.  The Rejane is the first bag to pay homage to a celebrity that is still in rotation today.  

The current iteration is from the Ramesh Nair era with the clean feminine lines of the Rejane evoke detailing from historical Moynat trunks.  Each bag is the result of 20 hours of craftsmanship by a single artisan.  There are many who place Moynat on the same level as Hermes in terms of quality and craftsmanship.

The bag is lined in beige calf leather with an open and spacious interior with one leather-lined zippered pocket.  The unique Art Deco closure is very easy to open with a simple down press on the button - this is not a “fussy” bag to get in and out of. 

This bag can be carried either by hand or with the detachable shoulder strap, giving you options depending on your needs for the day. This bag has been lovingly carried and is in very good condition.  The leather has softened slightly and there is some smoothing of the leather grain.  There are a few scratches on the silver hardware, particularly on the clasp, and the Moynat lock button has loosened a bit.  The interior is generally clean but does have some very minor scratches and a little look of “use.”  The hand- painted edges are in great condition and the corners are clean without any holes, tears, etc.  Generally consistent with age and use. 

Approximately 26 cm in length, 27 cm in height and 11 cm deep. 

This bag has been stored stuffed in its dust bag when not in use.  The bag will come with its original dust bag, care and authenticity cards.  Smoke and pet free home.
